Do you know what is Projector or Mini Projector? When we want to explain or give instructions of any subject, topic or lesson to a group of persons, we need to use a board to write on visible to all. How much can be written on a board? We will have to rub and then write the next topic. This is a boring and time wasting process. If some has to repeat this process 5 to 8 times a day, 6 days a week throughout his life. What he/she will feel? As necessity is the mother of invention. This led the invention if Projector and the miniaturized version are known as Mini Projector.
Principle of Mini Projector
All of us know that the light travels in straight lines and if any object is placed in the path of light, shadow of the object is seen on the wall. This is the basic principle behind the projector. Transparent sheet/slides on which the matter/lesson/figures/animations are printed, are passed in front of the light source in a sequential manner with managed time intervals, the shadow on the finished wall, cloth, board is use to teach the candidates. In old time it all was a big mechanism of room sizes, but with development of technology and advancement in electronic the Projector is squeezed in to the pocket and now is known as Mini Projector.
History of Mini Projector
There is no clear records available in the history, when and who invented the Projector or Mini Projector. As per records available, projectors are being used since the mid of 17th century. An arrangement including a mirror for reflecting sunlight, passing through a lens on to the screen named as ‘Magic Lantern’ is described and explained using drawing by Athansius Kircher, a highly qualified Jesuit scholar. Once, any device is invented, the age of development starts. In 1800’s it was discovered by Michael Faraday that if a lump of quicklime is burnt with an oxygen hydrogen flame it gives a highly bright light. This was named as Lime light, and replaced all other methods of light used with projector. This Lime light was used for a long period and was also tried in theatres in beginning. But in late 1800’s electric lighting system came into picture and all other conventional methods of lighting were obsolete. With entry in the electric era, the golden period of development in technology in all fields started. Along with, other techniques the projector technology also got advancement. It entered the portability phase. Now the Projectors were small in size, user-friendly, reliable and had a capability to create clear, sharp, bright images. These projectors were able to produce images of different sizes, in any size of room & in any color of light. This was known as multimedia Projector or Mini Projector.
With invention of Diode, transistor and integrated circuit in the 20th century the technology was revolutionized. DLP (digital light processing) technology was applied to Projector. In later decades of 20th century, invention of computer introduced SVGA projector, producing digital images precisely with high brightness. This digital imaging freed from playing the film in front of light. An in built audio system was incorporated. This gave synchronized voices to pictures giving natural effect. Now this became the complete unit, and the round of miniaturization started. At this time the size of projector is so minimized that it can be accommodated in the pocket.
